U.S. Customs and Border Safety (CBP) mentioned Tuesday that $18 million in faux Gibson guitars have been seized in California, which the company referred to as the “largest counterfeit musical instrument seizure on record.”
CBP mentioned in a press launch that places of work working with representatives of Gibson and native authorites seized 3,000 counterfeit Gibson guitars. These counterfeits, in the event that they have been handed off as genuine, would have had a price of $18,742,820, it mentioned.
CBP mentioned the faux guitars had come to the U.S. in ocean containers from Asia. Gibson, makes its guitars completely in the USA, verified that the guitars have been counterfeit.
Buyers must be cautious, the CBP mentioned, of shops providing merchandise properly under their market worth. Such items, it prompt, might not be actual.
“As we approach the busy Holiday shopping season, consumers should pay attention on where they are buying these goods and how much they are paying, and if is too good to be true it probably is,” CBP Los Angeles Area Operations Director Cheryl M. Davies mentioned within the launch.
The CEO of Gibson mentioned in a press release within the CBP launch that his firm is grateful for the work from authorities in halting the counterfeit scheme.
