Former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) stated in a brand new interview that he’s “starting to think about” operating for governor of Florida in 2026.
In an interview with the Tampa Bay Instances, the previous congressman-turned-television host stated his chief concern could be dealing with the insurance coverage disaster.
“I have a compelling vision for the state,” Gaetz stated within the interview. “I understand how to fix the insurance problem, and it’s not to hand the keys to the state over to the insurance industry.”
“If I run, I would be the most proconsumer candidate on the Republican side,” he added.
Gaetz advised the Tampa Bay Instances he wants extra time to hope about his resolution and focus on the matter along with his spouse.
The interview comes after Gaetz resigned from Congress shortly after being tapped to function President-elect Trump’s lawyer normal. Amid issues about an ethics probe into allegations of sexual misconduct and illicit drug use, Gaetz withdrew from consideration.
Regardless of his resignation from Congress, the Home Ethics Committee launched a report on the panel’s roughly three-and-a-half-year investigation into the firebrand Florida Republican.
The report discovered “substantial evidence” that Gaetz violated Home guidelines, and state and federal legal guidelines, outlining allegations of prostitution, statutory rape and illicit drug use, amongst different accusations. Gaetz has denied any wrongdoing.
Gaetz advised the Tampa Bay Instances that he doesn’t view the report’s findings as an obstacle to operating for public workplace once more.
“Those lies have been told about me for years,” he stated to the Florida information outlet. “They’ve never affected my ability to win elections.”
