MSNBC’s Chris Hayes mentioned Tuesday that it is “genuine madness” for Democrats to not “take the age situation critically,” after Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) misplaced her bid to be the rating member on the Home Oversight and Accountability Committee subsequent Congress.
On his present “All In” Tuesday, Hayes famous a number of cases of older Democrats or left-leaning figures holding onto and buying highly effective positions as a substitute of letting youthful figures take these positions.
Hayes referenced President Biden’s bid for a second time period, former Supreme Court docket Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg staying on the court docket till she died and Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), 74, not too long ago defeating Ocasio-Cortez, 35, to be the rating member on the Oversight panel subsequent Congress.
“You would think that would have been enough for Democrats to start taking the age issue seriously, but it was not,” Hayes mentioned of Biden’s re-election marketing campaign, and eventual exit from the race, in a clip highlighted by Mediaite.
“Gerry Connolly won that vote today, and he did so thanks in part to former Speaker Nancy Pelosi whipping votes for him,” he added.
Hayes mentioned Connolly’s victory “appears like a second of real insanity.”
“Now, Pelosi whipped votes to make sure that Connolly got the Oversight job over the young star in the party, even as the 84-year-old Pelosi is recovering from hip surgery after suffering a fall,” Hayes mentioned.
Ocasio-Cortez had argued for Democrats to embrace a more moderen technology of leaders, an concept that has gained steam after Biden’s ill-fated run, and which appeared to assist unseat different senior Democrats this week from committee chairs. Nevertheless, this development didn’t lengthen to the high-profile Oversight panel, with the caucus voting 131-84 in favor of Connolly.
