A Georgetown College postdoctoral scholar has been detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), making him the newest international pupil contained in the nation legally who’s been caught within the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown at universities.
Badar Khan Suri, an Indian nationwide, was arrested on Monday evening in Arlington, Va., Politico first reported Wednesday from a authorized submitting within the case. Officers informed Suri that his visa had been revoked.

A spokesperson for Georgetown College stated it’s “not aware” of Suri participating in legal exercise and the college has “not received a reason for his detention.”
“We support our community members’ rights to free and open inquiry, deliberation and debate, even if the underlying ideas may be difficult, controversial or objectionable. We expect the legal system to adjudicate this case fairly,” the varsity stated.
Suri’s legal professional says he’s being persecuted due to the Palestinian heritage of his spouse, a U.S. citizen, Politico reported.
