Congressman Sean Casten (D-Unwell.) hammered former Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) over accusations about his sexual assault allegations and reported drug use detailed within the Home Ethics report that he’s pushing to have launched.
“None of us would want to work in an environment where you can commit the crimes that Matt Gaetz is alleged to have committed, including — let’s not sugarcoat this — allegations of having sex with a minor child,” Casten fumed throughout a Saturday MSNBC look.
He urged the Home Ethics Committee to launch the main points of the investigation regardless of Gaetz’s resignation from Congress and withdrawal from the legal professional normal nomination.
“We have to remind the American people that in the House we care about ethics,” he emphasised.
“When you have elections, that we are the country that is not always perfect, but at least aspires to that vision that our founders laid out, where no one is above the law,” Casten added. “And to do that, we need to release this report.”
In current weeks, Home Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) stated he was towards releasing the report whereas some Democrats say the report must be delivered to mild. Final week, Casten and Rep. Steve Cohen (D-Tenn.) moved to power votes on a decision requesting an on document vote from members about what must be completed with the knowledge.
“Given how tight the balance of the House is and, quite candidly, how many members of the Republican caucus there are who, while they might turn a blind eye to sexual assault, genuinely do not like Matt Gaetz, there is the very real possibility of that being forced to be released through a House vote,” he stated.
