Danielle Sassoon, the performing U.S. lawyer for the Southern District of New York, resigned from her submit after the Justice Division (DOJ) directed her to drop costs in opposition to New York Metropolis Mayor Eric Adams (D).
A spokesperson for the U.S. lawyer’s workplace confirmed Sassoon stepped down from her submit Thursday afternoon.
The DOJ advised Sassoon that the fees in opposition to Adams needs to be dropped, arguing the case “improperly interfered” with Adams’s reelection marketing campaign and restricted his skill to handle unlawful immigration and violent crime.
In a letter to Lawyer Common Pam Bondi, Sassoon wrote that Adams’s attorneys “repeatedly urged what amounted to a quid professional quo.”
