Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas) on Wednesday acknowledged he had been briefly detained at Dulles Worldwide Airport earlier this month as a result of airport authorities thought he appeared drunk.
McCaul, the chair of the Home Overseas Affairs Committee, acknowledged in a press release to NewsNation, The Hill’s sister community, that he had made a “mistake” in mixing the sleep treatment Ambien and alcohol.
“This was the results of a poor determination I made to combine an Ambien — which I took as a way to sleep on the upcoming flight — with some alcohol,” McCaul mentioned in a press release. “Law enforcement officers briefly detained me while I waited for a family member to pick me up.”
McCaul was charged with being intoxicated in public within the Nov. 4 incident at Dulles, in response to Crystal Nosal, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority.
The Home Republican, who typically travels worldwide to fulfill with international leaders and different officers, thanked regulation enforcement for his or her response and mentioned he would use the incident to “make myself a greater particular person.”
“I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the officers who intercepted me that evening,” McCaul mentioned. “This incident doesn’t mirror who I’m and who I try to be. As a human, I’m not good. However I’m decided to be taught from this error and, God prepared, make myself a greater particular person.”
McCaul simply secured his eleventh time period within the Home this November. Members of each chambers returned to Washington this week after the Republicans delivered a trifecta for President-elect Trump.
