Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-Md.) stated Monday that his social gathering is properly positioned to learn from GOP conflicts within the Home throughout the brand new Congress, with Republicans in charge of each chambers.
“I think we’re gonna be in good shape to exploit some of the conflicts and contradictions going on within the Republican conference,” Raskin instructed “The Daily Show” host Jon Stewart.
Raskin pointed to a couple early examples, together with the “racist MAGA base” fuming at Elon Musk over his assist for high-skilled overseas employee visas used broadly by tech corporations.
“And so, that’s something that’s already starting to explode in terms of Republican politics,” Raskin stated.
“But, there’s a bunch of issues like that, including abortion, where there’s still some libertarians who don’t wanna go near it, but the theocratic majority within MAGA, led by Mike Johnson, say that life begins at conception, and so they’ve been trying to ban it nationally,” he added. “And we expect that to come back, and hopefully we’ll be able to pull over some of the lingering pro-choice Republicans.”
Raskin’s feedback come after Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) narrowly secured the Speaker’s gavel once more final week. He’s already going through divided views on how the Home and Senate ought to move a serious Republican reconciliation invoice.
“We’re 15 days out from the inauguration of President Donald J. Trump for his second term. And we want to make sure that we’re jump-starting the agenda now over the next two weeks, so that he’s prepared and ready on day one,” Johnson stated.
“We have a lot to do, as you know. And we have been putting all the plays together and figuring out the sequence of how we’re going to run those plays. And we’re really excited about it.”
