Rep. Michael Cloud (R-Texas) mentioned Thursday that he’s on the lookout for a “third option” to keep away from “the status quo” within the Home because the Speakership election nears.
“There are concerns that a delay in electing a Speaker could lead to a brief delay in enacting President Trump’s agenda,” Cloud mentioned in a Thursday night publish on social platform X.

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) faces a decent race to maintain his gavel, as he can solely afford to lose one vote along with his small Republican Home majority if each lawmaker is current and voting for a candidate. Rep. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) has already pledged to oppose Johnson.
Cloud additionally mentioned he believes finally backing Johnson has been his “goal all along” within the wake of a Thursday assembly with him.
The Home vote on Friday for a brand new Speaker follows a contentious December for Johnson surrounding a failed deal on authorities spending.
Earlier this week, President-elect Trump provided a whole and whole endorsement of Johnson, calling him “a good, hard working, religious man.”
